Charging System Test

My hybrid will not start. Is the main battery finished?
Far more often it is the small auxiliary battery, even with plenty of charge in the hybrid pack. It is the first thing tested because it is the most common cause and much the cheapest to put right.
Can you look after the hybrid battery?
Yes. Pack health, module balance and the cooling fan and its filter are all checked, and in this dust the cooling filter matters more than most owners realise.
How long does a battery last in Abu Dhabi?
Considerably less than the same battery would in a cooler country, because heat is what wears them out. It is worth having the battery tested every year rather than waiting for it to strand you.
What is the difference between AGM and EFB?
Both are built for stop-start cars and for the deep cycling that comes with it. AGM holds its electrolyte in a glass mat and takes the hardest duty, and EFB is a reinforced flooded battery for lighter stop-start systems. Which one your car needs is set by its charging strategy, not by price.
Does a new battery need to be registered to the car?
On most modern cars, yes. The charging strategy is tied to the battery's age, type and capacity, and registering it is what makes the car charge a new battery as new. It takes minutes and it decides how long the battery lasts.
My car keeps going flat even with a new battery. Why?
Either the charging system is not replacing what is used, or something is not going to sleep and is draining it while the car stands. Both are measurable, and replacing the battery a third time is not the answer to either.
