Subaru Suspension Repair in Abu Dhabi

Permanent four-wheel drive means wear at one corner does not stay at one corner, so the whole car is assessed rather than the corner that knocks. Al Zaabi Autocare carries out Subaru suspension and shock absorber repair in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi, across the Impreza, WRX, Forester, Outback, XV and BRZ.

What it covers

What a Subaru Suspension Repair Covers

Suspension is measured before it is quoted. A knock has several possible sources and only one of them is yours, so everything is checked on the ramp against the other side of the car.

  • 01Ramp Inspection and Play Testing
  • 02Shock Absorber Replacement
  • 03Coil Spring Replacement
  • 04Strut and Top Mount Repair
  • 05Control Arm and Bush Replacement
  • 06Ball Joint and Drop Link Replacement
  • 07Anti-Roll Bar and Bush Work

Open the full list below for everything a Subaru suspension repair covers, and what each part of it involves.

01

Ramp Inspection and Play Testing

Each joint, bush and link is loaded with a bar with the wheels off the ground. It is the only way to separate a worn bush from a worn ball joint, and it is what stops a knock turning into a list of parts.

02

Shock Absorber Replacement

Dampers are checked for leaks, for bump stop damage and for how the car settles after being pushed down. Heat kills damper oil quietly, and a tired damper ruins tyres long before it fails outright.

03

Coil Spring Replacement

Broken springs are more common here than owners expect, and a car sitting low on one corner with a knock over bumps is usually a spring rather than a damper.

04

Strut and Top Mount Repair

Collapsed top mounts and seized top bearings read as heavy steering at parking speed and a creak on lock. Both are replaced with the strut rather than after it.

05

Control Arm and Bush Replacement

Control arm bushes perish in this heat and take the geometry with them. They are replaced in axle pairs so the car sits, steers and wears its tyres evenly.

06

Ball Joint and Drop Link Replacement

The cheapest parts on the car and the loudest. A worn drop link is a rattle over rough surfaces, and left alone it wears the anti-roll bar bush it works against.

07

Anti-Roll Bar and Bush Work

Bar bushes dry out and clonk. The bar, its mounts and its links are treated as one assembly because replacing one of the three rarely ends the noise.

08

Air Suspension Diagnosis and Repair

Where the car rides on air, the compressor, dryer, valve block, height sensors and springs are tested as a system and the fault found before anything is replaced.

09

Adaptive Damper Diagnosis

Electronically controlled dampers are read for circuit faults and commanded through their range, so a control fault is not treated as a worn damper or the other way round.

10

Four-Wheel Alignment and Ride Height

Every suspension job finishes on the alignment rack at the car's specified ride height. New parts move the geometry, and leaving it is how a repair turns into a set of tyres.

What we see on these cars

Known Subaru Suspension Faults We See

Suspension wears in a predictable order on any given car. Knowing the order is what stops a knock turning into a list of parts.

  • 01

    Front Struts and Top Mounts

The strut front takes the worst of speed bumps and broken edges. Leaking struts, collapsed mounts and seized bearings show as noise or heavy steering at parking speed.

  • 02

    Rear Multi-Link Bushes

The rear end has more joints than most family cars, and perished bushes there make the car feel vague under load long before anything knocks.

  • 03

    Driveline Angles and Four-Wheel Drive

Ride height and geometry change how hard the driveline works. On a permanently driven car that is worth getting right rather than close enough.

  • 04

    Wheel Bearings

These cars are known for wheel bearings, and the symptom is a hum that changes with steering load rather than with road surface. It is checked on the ramp with the wheel loaded.

  • 05

    Alignment With Matched Tyres

On permanent four-wheel drive, mismatched tyre circumferences load the centre differential. Alignment and tyre condition are assessed together rather than separately.

How it works

How Subaru Suspension Work Runs

Inspect, quote, replace in pairs, align, road test.

  1. 01

    Ramp Inspection

The car goes up and every joint is loaded and compared with the other side. You are shown what moves and what does not.

  2. 02

    Written Quote

What is worn, what is worth doing now and what can safely wait, priced before anything is ordered.

  3. 03

    Replacement

Parts replaced in axle pairs where the job calls for it, to the manufacturer's torque figures, with bushes pressed rather than forced.

  4. 04

    Alignment and Road Test

Four-wheel alignment at the correct ride height, then a road test over the surfaces that showed the fault in the first place.

Why owners pick us

What You Get Back

What you drive away with after a Subaru suspension repair, beyond the invoice.

  • A Quiet Car

The knock over expansion joints and the creak on lock are gone, which on most cars is the whole reason the owner booked it in.

  • Steering That Points

A car that holds its line instead of wandering, and a wheel that sits straight when the car does.

  • Longer Tyre Life

Worn suspension eats tyres from the shoulder inwards. Fixing it and aligning it is usually cheaper than the tyres it saves.

  • Shorter Stopping Distance

A damper that cannot control the wheel lets it skip under braking. Brakes get the credit for stopping the car, but the suspension decides whether they can.

  • Alignment Included

Not an extra line on the bill. If the work moved the geometry, setting it back is part of the work.

  • Diagnosed, Not Guessed

You are told which joint was worn and shown the movement, rather than sold the whole corner because something in it knocked.

Warning signs

When a Subaru Needs Suspension Work

Suspension rarely fails all at once. It degrades until the car feels normal to you and wrong to everybody else.

  • Knocking Over Bumps

The most common complaint and usually the cheapest: a drop link, a bush or a top mount. It stays cheap only while it is still a noise.

  • The Car Sitting Low

One corner down overnight is a broken spring or an air system losing pressure. The whole car down is the air system or worn springs all round.

  • Uneven Tyre Wear

A shoulder worn away on one edge is the suspension telling you about itself in the only way it can. Read it before you buy tyres.

  • Vague or Wandering Steering

The car needs constant small corrections to hold a lane. Usually bushes, a ball joint or geometry that has moved.

  • Bouncing After a Bump

More than one rebound after a dip means the damper is no longer controlling the spring, whatever it looks like from outside.

  • A Wet or Filmed Damper

Oil down the body of a shock absorber means it has lost its seal, and once it has, it is not damping anything.

  • A Suspension Warning Light

On adaptive or air-sprung cars this is a stored fault with a circuit attached to it, and it is readable rather than a mystery.

  • The Compressor Running Long

An air compressor that runs for a long time or runs often is working around a leak, and running it that way is what kills it.

Questions

Subaru Suspension Repair questions, answered

What Subaru owners ask before booking a suspension repair in. If yours is not here, call the workshop and ask.

Why does my car feel unsettled when nothing is broken?

Usually tired dampers and soft bushes together. Neither fails outright, so the car gets worse slowly enough that you stop noticing, which is why it gets measured rather than judged by feel.

Does it matter if my tyres are different sizes?

On a permanently driven car, considerably. A difference in rolling circumference loads the centre differential continuously, and that is an expensive way to save money on a tyre.

Do shock absorbers have to be replaced in pairs?

Yes. A new damper on one side and a tired one on the other makes the car brake and corner unevenly, which is worse than two matched but worn ones. Bushes, links and joints are replaced where they are worn, side by side.

Is alignment included?

Four-wheel alignment is part of the job wherever the work moves the geometry, which is almost every suspension repair. It is done at the car's specified ride height, not at whatever height it happens to be sitting.

How long do suspension parts last in Abu Dhabi?

Less than the service schedule assumes. Heat hardens rubber and the road surface loads it, so bushes, top mounts and links wear faster here than the figures written for cooler countries.

Can you repair air suspension, or only replace it?

Both. Compressors, dryers, valve blocks, height sensors and lines are repaired or replaced individually once the system has been tested. Replacing the whole system because one corner drops is how people overpay.
